Glasgow HEMA Winter Weekend

  • Glasgow Club Scotstoun 112 Danes Drive Glasgow, Scotland, G14 9BQ United Kingdom (map)

Welcome! After a long hiatus we are returning our format of a day of seminars paired with a sparring day. This time we will be featuring a Longsword seminar on Saturday 10th followed by a sparring day on Sunday 11th with test cutting. More information below!

  • Ticket Price : £20
A day of seminars focused on German longsword with Paul Reck of Goats Head Historical Fencing in Ireland and Jack Fraser of the Dawn Duellists Society in Edinburgh.
Detail on the seminars will follow

Jack Fraser - Don't start before you've won it: Initiative in Liechtenauer Longsword

The sooner we can make our adversary not act, but react, the safer we become. This workshop will focus on controlling distance, making threats and giving openings, such that by the time we are in striking distance we have already secured an advantage.

Jack has been practising HEMA since 2014, with a focus on the Lichtenauer tradition of fencing. Pseudo-Hans Döbringer is his favourite. He is currently the primary instructor at the Dawn Duellists Society in Edinburgh.

    Paul Reck - Meyer's Tactics

This workshop will examine the tactical application of Meyer’s Square. It will talk a little bit about Meyer’s tactical philosophy and examine the applications of the principles of the Square through sparring games and exercises.

Paul is the founder of Goats Head Historical Fencing in Wexford, Ireland, and has been an instructor there since 2015. His main field of study is Meyer Longsword, but he dabbles in other traditions as well. Paul is also a stage combat instructor and fight director and has performed and choreographed many HEMA-inspired sword fights for the stage and screen.
